A visit to Kopli in april 2001
Just nearby a technical school
Together with Mati Sinisaar and guests from Norway, I made a visit to Kopli during the opening days at Peeteli. The area where the children in Peeteli come from. The houses are about 100 years old, built for workers at a nearby factory. We visited a family living in Kopli. They dreamt about moving to the contryside, but the dreams failed. Bad circumstances forced them to leave their apartment and with two children they had to move to Kopli where noone charges you with rent. They live in the house that possibly is in best shape. Which is not to say so much...
Christo (about 3 years old at this time) got a toy car
from us, and after awhile, he started to play. (When he lived in Peeteli church
for awhile, it was discovered that the boy sometimes was drunk when he was with
his parents in Kopli. When he was sober, he was like any other kid in that age!
Today, spring 2003 he is in fosterhome together with his sister in south
Estonia. All seems to be well with him. His sister said at arrival to their new
home: Are you our new mother and father?)
We brought some food, clothes and a child carrier, since Mati knew about a child to be born in Kopli about the day of our visit. The carrier came in handy.
When people saw Mati´s car, they came out of nowhere and asked for clothes and food. And they were greatful!
This house is now
taken down. Not so long before our visit, some people lived right here.
Two norweigan ladies. Some houses in the rear have
been taken down during 2001-2002. The goal is to take all these houses
down. The area is beautifully situated just near the Baltic.
Fire damages can be
seen here and there.
One of the girls who once lived in Kopli
came along. Here, she met her dog from those days
Some pictures from a visit in june 1998, you´ll find it here.
